Ava Cofield recently was named the Edgecombe County Public Schools Employee of the Month for February.
Cofield has served as administrative assistant to Associate Superintendent Karen Dameron in the Operational Services division at the Central Office for the past seven years. She began her tenure at ECPS in 2001 as the secretary and bookkeeper for West Edgecombe Middle School before joining the Central Office in 2003 as the office assistant in the Student Support Services Department.
The anonymous person who nominated Cofield for the honor described Cofield as a “knowledgeable, resource, kind and genuine person who goes above and beyond to make a difference at ECPS.”
Cofield has been married for 23 years and has two sons, one daughter-in-law and one grandson. She graduated from Tarboro High School and also has a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from St. Augustine’s College. She says that a goal she has in mind in this point in her career it to retire in a few years and devote more time to her family and to also volunteer at the local nursing home’s Alzheimer Unit in honor of the special care others gave to her mother during her battle with the disease.
