ECC awards scholarships to high school graduates

Edgecombe Community College recently awarded academic scholarships valued at $1,000 each to seven graduates of SouthWest Edgecombe High School and Tarboro High School.

Academic scholarship recipients from SouthWest Edgecombe High School are Nicholas Collins, Alexander Derby, Kelly Ellis, Nicholas Harrison, and Tyler Lewis. Jennifer Gamboa and Juan Johnson Jr. from Tarboro High School also received academic scholarships. All of the students achieved a GPA of more than 3.0.

During ECC’s High School Open House in April, the college held a drawing for a scholarship for each school that participated. These schools were Tarboro, North Edgecombe and SouthWest high schools, and each school received a $1,000 Open House scholarship for one student.

Open House scholarship recipients are Shirronda Pettaway of Tarboro High, Jacquitha Joyner of North Edgecombe High and Ashley Powell of Southwest Edgecombe High.

Edgecombe Community College also awarded two academic scholarships of $700 each to Southern Nash High School and Nash Central High School seniors.

The college awarded a total of $11,400 in scholarships to Edgecombe County and Nash County seniors. Scholarships were presented by ECC officials during the high schools’ awards ceremonies.
