The Harrison Family YMCA recently hired Cynthia Kornegay to be the new child care director.
Kornegay always has had a strong desire for working with and enhancing the lives of children and their families. She describes her life’s passion as “advocating and working on behalf of children and their families.” S
he also said that caring for children and helping to build their futures is one of the most important things we can do as a community.
“I am so excited to be in a position in which I can utilize my previous experiences as a teacher and director at a Boys and Girls Club, public school teacher and a Sunday school teacher,” Kornegay said.
With a goal of providing the highest quality program for all children and families, she has plans to expand the YMCA program into more schools and counties, as well as enhancing the Y’s on-site Five Star Licensed Program, with S.T.E.M. and tutoring services for all grade levels.
YMCA officials said they are more than excited to have her on board as part of the team. She adds a positive energy and is devoted to the success of the child care program at the Y, they said, and with her leadership and fresh, new direction, the Harrison Family YMCA’s child care program will be sure to blossom.
