Lillie M. Whitaker, a longtime beautician and resident of Enfield, celebrated her 90th birthday on Aug. 31 at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church.
Whitaker graduated from Brick Tri-County High School and DeShazor’s Beauty School in Durham in 1946. She began her cosmetology career in Greenville and later worked as a stylist for more than 60 years at King and Queen’s Beauty Salon and Rosa Lee’s in Enfield.
The birthday celebration was organized by her daughter Anna and husband Arthur Williams and her granddaughter Onique Jones and husband Percy Jones. Sharing in the celebration were her four sisters, Pauline Whitaker, Geneva Whitaker, Sarah Bryant and Susie Bundy. Also attending were four original members of the Enfield Beautician Club, Ada McWilliams, Margaret Person, Addie Bobbitt, and Maezola Wilkins. Many other nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and church family joined the celebration.
Whitaker said she is deeply grateful to all who wished her well for reaching this milestone in her life.
