The Twin County Regional Housing Committee is having a Sleep Out for Homelessness this Thursday night in front of the Rocky Mount Train Station, and everyone is invited.
From 5:30 to 7 p.m., attendees will huddle in boxes and tents while listening to music and stories from two who used to be homeless, said Chris Battle, executive director of United Community Ministry. A soup kitchen also will be set up on the lawn of the Train Station for participants.
Everyone is asked to bring non-perishable food to donate to the ministry’s “Two Ton Food Challenge.” Battle said the goal of 4,000 pounds of food has been met, but was such a success, organizers decided to extend the collection at Rocky Mount fire stations through the end of December.
