Nash-Rocky Mount Public Schools has canceled classes on Friday.

Schools cancel or delay Friday classes

Classes at Nash-Rocky Mount Public Schools and Rocky Mount Preparatory School have been canceled for Friday.

Edgecombe County Public Schools system will operate on a three-hour delay Friday. 

"If conditions become worse, a decision to close schools instead will be made," said ECPS Public Information Officer Kristian Herring, "If that happens, we will communicate that decision by 9 a.m. (Friday) morning."

North East Carolina Preparatory School will operate on a two-hour delay Friday. Nash Community College will delay opening until 9 a.m.

City solid-waste collection will proceed as scheduled on Friday. Thursday’s pickup has been rescheduled for Saturday. Service on Friday and Saturday will be limited to residential trash and recycling, yard and bulk waste will not be collected.

American Red Cross emergency shelters closed Thursday morning. Two people were housed overnight at the shelters and officials are making housing arrangements for them elsewhere. Anyone that may still be in need of assistance due to the winter storm should call the Frederick E. Turnage of the American Red Cross at 252-977-1720.
