The Rocky Mount Fair will help kick off the Labor Day holiday weekend when it opens its gates at 4 p.m. Friday.
Organizers this year moved up the fair, which is usually held in the second week of October. The fair will run through Sept. 7.
“We changed the date to the Labor Day weekend this year to add excitement and to make the fair more convenient for more people,” fair General Manager Norman Chambliss said. “What better way to end the summer, start back to school and celebrate a national holiday than also have the Rocky Mount Fair?”
The fair will feature numerous events, including nightly entertainment, motocross racing, karaoke and talent contests, fireworks on Labor Day, a cheerleading competition, a special day for senior citizens, a “diaper derby” baby-crawling contest and a beauty pageant, Chambliss said.
“This is the most exciting lineup of entertainment and activities we’ve ever had at the fair,” he said. “From the Labor Day weekend opening through the close on September 7, there is something for everyone every single day.”
The carnival company supplying the rides is Playworld Amusements, the fourth year the Michigan-based company has been hired.
The fair will be open from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays amd noon to 10 p.m. on weekends and Labor Day.
