Native educator wins award

WASHINGTON — Twin Counties native Cleon Felton recently was awarded the National Leadership Award for his service in federal education programs at the Annual Conference of the National Association of Federal Education Program Administrators.

A graduate of the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, Felton serves on the N.C. Committee of Practitioners, which guides decision-making of federal education funds.

Felton taught at Tarboro High School and also has served as an assistant principal at Spring Hope Elementary. He currently serves as an administrator in the Federal Program Monitoring Section in Raleigh.

He is the son of James and Shirley Macklin Felton.
