The Edgecombe County Genealogy Society donated the most recently published cemetery book to Traci Thompson, local history librarian for the Braswell Memorial Library. The book, Edgecombe County, North Carolina-Greenwood Cemetery-Volume III, is the third in the series of books about cemeteries in Edgecombe County and covers the entire Greenwood Cemetery in Tarboro.
The book is arranged by the different sections of the cemetery with a map showing all sections, and pictures of some tombstones. Janice Dew is the chairman of the committee that surveyed the cemetery. Others of the Society who helped were Mary Keel, Jane Pridgen, Pam Edmonson, Frankie Powell, Betty Batchelor, Frances Burgess, Monika Fleming, Gladys Johnson and Betty Reason. Cemetery books like this are invaluable resources when searching family history. Many people from other counties and states have called or come to our library to research their genealogy. The Society has begun to survey cemeteries to be included in Volume IV.
Edgecombe County, North Carolina-Greenwood Cemetery-Volume III may be purchased for $30 by contacting Pam Edmonson at the Edgecombe County Memorial Library at 823-1141.
