TARBORO – Like millions of baby boomers in the United States, Eastern North Carolinians want to know: Are my parents safe living in their house? How will I know when it’s time for them to make a change? Should I intervene, and if so how? Answers to these questions and more will be offered at a free March workshop in Tarboro.

Dr. Robert Brookes Peters and Joy Weaver will offer expert advice to adult children of Eastern North Carolina when they lead a discussion about common issues facing aging parents and their families from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. March 6. The workshop requires advance reservations and will take place at The Fountains at The Albemarle, 200 Trade St., Tarboro.

“Often family members don’t seek professional advice until they’re in crisis mode and by then choices are limited and information can seem overwhelming,” Weaver said. “In this informative workshop we will aim to educate participants in general with the goal of preventing a crisis in the first place, with tips about things to watch for, conversations to have and options to consider.”

Space is limited. To attend, call 1-252-377-4153 by March 1.

Peters is a longtime family practitioner who currently serves as medical director of The Fountains at The Albemarle’s skilled nursing and rehabilitation center, The Springs. Joy Weaver is director of nursing for The Springs. Together, they bring vast practical and professional expertise to families unprepared for the kind of role reversal that gradual or sudden changes in health can bring about.
