The Nash Health Care Foundation’s second annual Golf Classic exceeded its fundraising goal of $110,000 to secure $122,620 to benefit a new Pediatric Emergency Care Center at Nash Health Care. The event was held at Benvenue Country Club, and Roger G. Taylor & Associates served as the event’s Presenting Sponsor for the second consecutive year.
“It was so rewarding to see so many people come together to support this effort for our community’s children,” said Bob Skelton, vice president and chief development officer. “We would like to thank everyone, from our sponsors to our volunteers, for making this event possible.”
John S. Derbyshire MD, Vice Chairman of the Nash Health Care Foundation Board Directors, served as the General Chairman of the Golf Classic while Roger G. Taylor and Robert J. “Ziggy” Zalzneck, both Board Directors of the Nash Health Care Foundation, served as the Co-Vice Chairmen of the event.
“Thousands of children are treated each year in the Emergency Care Center of Nash Health Care, and it is vitally important that we have a dedicated area specifically designed just for them,” Derbyshire said. This new Pediatric Emergency Care Center will have its own separate entrance. This is not a luxury; it is an absolute necessity that is important to help ensure the health of future generations.”
Today, when a parent brings a child to the Emergency Care Center, that child must wait with patients who may be trauma victims, psychiatric patients, or patients who may have contagious diseases. More than 18 percent of those seen at the Emergency Care Center are under the age of 18, as compared to the national and statewide average of 10 percent.
The Golf Classic’s Steering Committee Members included: Chris Alexander, Wes Ballance, Cam Blalock, David Broyles, Norman Chambliss, Stephanie Collins, John Congelli, Brenning Daughtridge, Wayne Gibson, Lisa Holland, Anne Kinnaird, Charlene Lewis, Allison Manning- Williams, Don Mucci, Nancy Nelson, Rich Parker, Bob Skelton, Jay Streater and Judy Woelke.
With the leadership of Roger Taylor, Sponsorship Committee Chairman, $94,050 was solicited in sponsorships ranging from $10,000 to $1,000. Other financial support included $8,020 in individual golfers and foursomes, $2,640 in mulligan sales, $2,350 in luncheon sponsorships from physicians’ wives, $3,175 in general contributions, $2,179 from the hospital silent auction and book sale, $1,606 from the Golf Classic silent auction and $8,600 from the Golf Classic live auction.
Dr. and Mrs. Greg Nelson hosted a Sponsors Reception for corporate sponsors on Thursday, May 19. Nearly one hundred guests attended the party at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Nelson.
