Employees from McGladrey LLP recently assisted the Down East Partnership for Children with their Discovery Play and Learning Park project.

Five volunteers from McGladrey’s Rocky Mount office helped assemble playground equipment and spread rocks for the nature pathways of the park.

The mission of Discovery Play and Learning Park is to provide a community recreation and educational space focused on nature play and learning for children, families, local childcare centers and the community. Discovery Play and Learning Park will provide multiple functions for the Rocky Mount area and will include a multipurpose stage/outdoor classroom, sensory garden, grass maze, picnic shelter and play equipment zone.

“We appreciate the McGladrey volunteers and their time spent working on the playground equipment and pathways for Discovery Play and Learning Park,” said Melissa Lowry, DEPC family resource center manager. “The park’s grand opening is scheduled for April 7 to kick off the Week of the Young Child. It will serve as a model outdoor learning environment for child care providers, schools, and park and recreation departments.”

The volunteer activities for the DEPC were part of the fourth annual McGladrey Volunteer Day, during which more than 2,500 employees and clients volunteered in more than 130 activities across the country.

“McGladrey understands the importance of giving back to the community,” said Stephen Barnes, partner in McGladrey’s Rocky Mount office. “We value stewardship and are thrilled to have been able to support the DEPC’s efforts through our volunteer day.”

The Rocky Mount office of McGladrey also supported the community this past year by participating in the Samaritan’s Purse shoeboxes, adopting a family from My Sister’s House and bell ringing for the Salvation Army.
