On Nov. 16, Doris Stith, Earlene Womack and Lucy Brown were awarded the 1st Annual DREAM Beacon of Service Award by DREAM Social and Civic Club.

These prestigious women were selected due to their many years of dedicated service in the Edgecombe County community. Doris Stith has over 20 years of service as the Executive Director Community Enrichment Organization. Earlene Womack is a retired teacher with 32 years of service in education. She has 25 years of service with Edgecombe County Public Schools.

Lucy Brown has worked as a registered nurse for over 25 years in the Edgecombe County community. Guest speaker was Dr. Evelyn Johnson who also serves as a community board member for DREAM Social & Civic Club. The Club was founded in August 2012 and is comprised of dynamic, resilient, educated women who are committed to bettering themselves while bettering the community around them.

DREAM Social & Civic Club exists to challenge girls, women, and the community to a greater good.

The three recipients of the 2013 DREAM Beacon of Service award have met that challenge head on and continue to fight for women, girls and the community at large.
