The Rocky Mount Public Works Department will provide an additional week of loose leaf collection.

“Supplemental loose leaf collection will take place in order to assist in the removal of loose leaves that were placed at the street after the collections in November and December 2013,” said Jonathan Boone, director of public works and water resources.

Additional loose leaf pick-up will take place the week of Jan. 27 on the north route and the week of Feb. 3 on the south route. Residents are reminded not to rake leaves or yard waste into the curb or street and to rake leaves to the curb no later than 7 a.m. Monday of the collection week. Crews will pass by each house on the route only once and not necessarily on the resident’s regular solid waste collection day. Loose leaf collection is for leaves and pine straw only. All loose leaf piles must be free of trash, sticks, limbs, bottles, cans and other debris.

“Items other than leaves can damage the equipment used by the collection crews,” Boone said. “Therefore, loose leaf piles that contain foreign material may be ineligible for collection.”
