The Battleboro Community Volunteer Fire Department recently presented the 2013 Henry Marriott Extra Effort Award to firefighter Kevin Scott Marks Jr.

The award is named for Henry Marriott, who had Down Syndrome and was an honorary member of the Battleboro Community Volunteer Fire Department. He was very instrumental in overseeing the construction of the department’s current building.

Throughout 2013, Marks completed his #1403, which is the minimum live fire entry standard, Nash County First Responder program.

Marks also was the recipient of the 2013 recipient of the department’s 2013 James E. Hardee Sr. Award for highest call percentage. The minimum call percentage for the department is 15 percent. Marks’ call percentage was 69 percent.

“This young man is at every incident if not in college, work or with his family,” said Battleboro Fire Chief Eddie Hardee.
