The East Carolina Council of the Boy Scouts of America will launch its annual Scouting for Food drive this weekend.

Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Venturers will be placing bright yellow door hangers on doors on Saturday across the region. Scouts will return to pick up donated bags of food on Feb. 11. Donations should be placed on doorsteps for pick up before 9 a.m. on that morning.

Food donations can include canned items such as vegetables, meats, chili, soups or juices and baby formula. Boxed or bagged meals and pastas also are welcome. The ideal food donation bag would include one of each, but nothing perishable, frozen or in glass containers. Monetary donations cannot be accepted.

The food drive will involve thousands of Scouts and adult volunteers across 21 counties in Eastern North Carolina. Scouts will collect and distribute more than 80,000 pounds of food to local community or church pantries.

This year’s food drive is being sponsored by Boddie-Noell Enterprises.
