An army of tiny voices strongly joined in unison Wednesday around the flagpole at Parkwood Preschool as more than 90 Christian children gathered to pray to God and honor the red, white and blue.

The effort served as the preschool’s participation in “See You at the Pole” – an annual gathering of Christian students nationwide around their respective flagpoles for morning filled with prayer, scripture-reading and singing.

The Parkwood Preschool children, ages 2-5, joined hands with each other as well as their teachers to form rings around the pole.

“Your children need to be taught from an early age who God is, and how important God’s values are in their lives and the lives of those around them,” said Judy Leonard, the preschool’s director.

Once Leonard led the children in prayer thanking God for their parents and other blessings, the children recited the Pledge of Allegiance followed by the Pledge to the Christian Flag.

“Parents know that we are a Christian preschool, and that we teach the Word of God completely,” Leonard said. “They know that anytime anything comes up that honors Him and draws attention to prayer – we’re going to be a part of it.”

Parkwood Baptist Church Associate Pastor Alan Whitley said it is important to train children to have a “healthy reverence and fear of God and his Word.”

“I believe it is very critical that the children have that foundation on which to build upon – to be successes in life as God would really have them be,” Whitley said. “We’re very blessed, and we are so proud of our preschool and the children in it.

True Heroes

A hundred "Atta Boys" to Ms. Leonard and Paster Whitley.....Respect for God and the Country's Flag...I thought the ACLU and the government forbide this brainwashing of America's children (as they put it). Thank God Parkwood has the guts to instill in these children what us older folks grew up with. This Country has seen what has happened when you take God, Jesus, and Holy Spirit out of a young childs life. This Country has seen what has happend when we don't instill national pride in our children......both has contributed to the "downgrading" of this country on a world view. The last generation was called our "Greatest Generation" and the two facets named above were our foundations. Now this last generation of young people are called the "X Generation" or the Lost Generation and we can't understand why. Drugs, teen pregnancy, STD's and V.D. running rampant, alcholism, depression, no respect for each other or themsleves, no respect for authority, and then add teen suicides statistics....it's more than just "changing times!". One of the things that has changed is the lack of God, Jesus, and Holy Ghost in their lives......who do these young people turn too when "Maud's Mule of Life" kicks them square in the head! We learned when life knocked us down to our knees....we prayed to God while we were there to help us get back up. The ACLU and the government liberal folks can deny it all they want....us older folks know that the principals set forth by our Creator and his Son and a people who stood by those principals and beliefs are what made this Country great and "the Eagle still flew in the sky...filled hearts with national pride" (Elton John). President Obama sure hit the nail on the head declaring American is no longer just a Christian Nation.....but it sure was better when it was.
