Braswell Memorial Library is normally a quiet place of reading, but Friday night the building will become filled with sweets and entertainment.
The Friends of Braswell Memorial Library, a volunteer based library support group, are hosting their annual Champagne and Chocolates event from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Battle Reading Room.
“The fundraiser is an event for the community to come together and support the summer reading program,” said Jeanne Shannon, library volunteer and member of the Friends of Braswell.
Besides supporting the library, the event is perfect for hanging out with friends, Director Catherine Roche said.
During the event, attendees will have the opportunity to drink wine, eat chocolate and listen to jazz musician Bill Myers, Shannon said.
Reading during the summer is important because it keeps children learning throughout the year, Shannon said.
“Children have that break and the summer reading program fills that gap so they continue to learn,” Shannon said.
So far, 75 people have RSVP’d, Shannon said, but the group is looking for around 100.
“We would love to have more,” Shannon said.
Tickets for the event are $50 for individuals, $100 for couples, $100 for individual sponsors and $200 for couples sponsors.
Sponsors will have their names projected on a screen during the event, in appreciation of their donations, Shannon said.
Tickets can be purchased by calling the library at 252-442-1951 or by visiting the library.
Tickets also will be sold at the door before the event.
