Youth groups help couple
WHITAKERS – The youth groups of Gethsemane Baptist Church of Whitakers and Olde Mount Vernon Baptist Church of Raleigh came together to perform a service project and discipleship weekend on April 25-27.
The weekend started April 25, when the groups met for fellowship, including a time of praise music and Bible study.
The service project was the renovation of Charles and Thelma Snellgrove's home. The Snellgroves have been residents of Whitakers for 40 years and have always helped others in the community. Due to Charles Snellgrove's health, he has been prevented from doing many home repairs.
April 26 started with building a deck behind the house, painting the house and removing and trimming trees. A shed also was demolished, a handicapped ramp was extended and a brick sidewalk was repaired. The youth groups also cleared ditches and trimmed the yard.
More than 50 people helped in some capacity.
