Planning a reunion for all former Rocky Mount High School Blackbirds is challenging, but the work is well under way, members of the reunion committee said.

The reunion is for all students who attended Rocky Mount High School from the late 1920s to 1969, the time when the students were known as "The Blackbirds."

The reunion, which is being called the "Supreme Blackbird Reunion," will begin at 8 p.m. June 6 at the Doubletree Inn with a cocktail party around the pool featuring Dr. Dan Ballance, class of 1967, as DJ, playing all old music.

Activities continue June 7 with a golf tournament at Northgreen Golf Club and conclude with a party that night at N.C. Wesleyan College. To be held under a big-top tent, the party will feature music by The Embers.

"All systems are go for this fabulous weekend of events scheduled for June 6-7 in Rocky Mount," said Ernest Bridgers, leader of the reunion committee. "This has been a very satisfying task. We are hearing from people from all over the U.S. who are planning to return to the roost to attend the reunion. We are very excited."

One challenge, Bridgers said, is finding the school's 4,000-plus graduates from 1932 to 1969 so that the committee can send them information and help them make their plans.
