The Nash County Democratic Party announced the formation of Young Democrats of Nash County.
A start-up meeting was held recently at Braswell Memorial Library. Tiffany Foster was elected president; Glenn Vines was elected vice president; Erica Mitchell was elected secretary; and Jessica Pitchford was elected treasurer.
"We have reached a milestone in our county party," said Gwen Wilkins, chairwoman of the Nash County Democratic Pary. "When I took office in April 2007, I had a strong desire to motivate and get our young people involved in the political process. It is extremely important for us to enlist our young adults to help carry the torch of the Democratic Party. They are our future leaders."
Wilkins said the objective of the Young Democrats of Nash County is to stimulate an active interest in young people in governmental affairs, serve as a mechanism for satisfying political expression and encourage young people to take an active role in party affairs, as well as take an active interest in local, state and national affairs.
Wilkins said all registered Democratic voters between 18 and 35 who live in Nash County are welcome to attend the next meeting of the Young Democrats of Nash County at 6 p.m. March 20.
Those who would like to join the Young Democrats but are not registered to vote may register at the March meeting.
