During a warm beautiful day, the jungle animals gathered in the rain forest for a council meeting. Later on that day, a colorful toucan announced that something had to be done to stop the cattle ranchers. They had just began clearing land for a new ranch. Without finishing the council meeting, all the jungle animals ran out of the rain forest as quick and fast as they could.
All of a sudden, they reached the cattle ranches in no time. "Stop! Stop! Don't clear the land for a new ranch," yelled all the jungle animals. "Let me get everybody's attention please," yelled the toucan. "Stop what you are doing and listen!" Everything became quiet. The toucan said, "Everybody will use only one sheet of paper to write your name and beside it right yes or no to decide if we are going to clear the land for a new ranch or not."
Suddenly everyone signed the paper, and it was quickly returned to toucan. He took the paper and looked at it carefully. It said one more person put no than yes (11 nos and 10 yeses). He showed everyone the finding, and they stopped clearing the land for a new ranch.
Where I Live
By Anthony Lim, third grade, OLPH Catholic School
North Carolina is the state where I live. Raleigh is its capital. Life seems simple here. I live about 10 miles away from my school. And one day, maybe I can ride my bicycle to get there. When I'm able that is. That will put a smile on my face especially if I can race side by side with someone.
California is where I would like to live next. I don't know how it would feel like, but I think it's like living in space. You would not know until you become familiar with their ways. I'm nervous, just as nervous as when I received the sacrament of First Communion.
I might sit on a table one day and think. I might poke my eye so I won't fall asleep as I think. And if my brother shouts "smoke" I'll be up, and find out it's all a dream, and there goes my broken dream.
The Witch Story
By Cameron Pettigrew, second grade, Winstead Avenue Elementary
One scary night my friend and I were walking on the sidewalk. I saw a light in the trees. I said look at that tree Rachel it looks scary. So we held hands. Both of our legs were shaking. So we walked into the woods. That's a witch scream. I said Sh...Sh...She might hear you. Suddenly a bat came and said you two are not allowed in here. Then he flew away. He stopped and said if I catch you back here again you will be dead. We never went back there again.
