Once upon a time there was a moose named Tom. He was a very lonely moose. His parents died. But when Christmas came around he was very excited. He set up his Christmas tree and got out his wreaths. Tom could not wait for Christmas.
But in a few weeks it was Christmas Eve. Tom was excited. Tom put out cookies for Santa and carrots for the reindeer. Then he went to bed but that night he heard something. He got up and looked around the corner and it was Santa! Santa was surprised when he looked at Tom, the moose. It scared him. But after a few minutes Santa asked, "Do you have a family?" Tom said no. This is when Santa started to think. Santa ate his cookies and went to deliver presents to all the boys and girls.
Tom was sad when Santa left. But in a few days Santa called Tom and asked him if he wanted to join his team. Tom said yes. The next day Tom went to the North Pole. Santa gave Tom magic powers. At first Tom wasn't that hot at flying. But by the next Christmas he was flying like all the other reindeer. He was the lead reindeer moose the next year. Year after year Tom was the happiest reindeer moose of them all.
The Snake
By Daniel Boddie, sixth grade, Rocky Mount Prep School
Swish swish swish swish
I slither on the ground
Swish swish swish swish
I eat anything that makes a sound.
I slither really quietly
So you can't hear me.
I also slither so fast
That it's hard 2 believe.
I have different patterns
On my back
Such as blue red
White and Black.
I'm tall as 2 folding chairs
Long as a table.
My babies are not
So they are long as a cable.
I'm not respectful
I'm not mean.
So you have known
I'm in between.
So be careful where you walk
cause I could be anywhere
but walk quietly
cause you could be ready to scare.
Four Legs
By Taylor Edmondson, second grade, Rocky Mount Academy
If people had four legs, I wonder, would we have to wear two pairs of pants?
If we had four legs, we would run faster!
We would have to wear two pairs of shoes.
