WRITING WINNER

Reading is Astonishing

By Elizabeth Landen, fifth grade, Falls Road Baptist Church School

ART WINNER By Noah Ellerbee, first grade, D.S. Johnson Elementary

By Jeremy Taylor, sixth grade, Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic School

By Gracie Cox, third grade, Rocky Mount Academy

I am inspired by reading. In reading you may read about hideous trolls, beautiful princesses and heroic knights. They can take you to a fairytale land.

The world would be such a boring place if we had no books. You should be thankful books are made. Without books we would have no imagination. Reading gives you thoughts about writing. Writing is a great way to express your feelings about reading. I am determined that readers will learn more from reading. When you open a book, you can borrow words in that book to make you a better writer.

Reading is astonishing!

The Great Adventure

By Audrey Nash, second grade, Rocky Mount Academy

I am an explorer. I'm going in a cave. It's dark, dark, dark, dark, very dark.

I hope I don't see a bear. I don't won't him to eat me for lunch. I will hunt for gold in the cave.

I will hunt for gold for a week or five weeks.

It will be a great adventure.

My House

By John N. Schacht, third grade, Rocky Mount Academy

My house has a lot of commotion!

My house has two stories. The first story is bricks, the second story is white.

I think my house feels warm, safe and cozy. It makes me happy and cheerful, but I think it is especially good.

I think my house is quiet from the outside, but from the inside it is noisy.

I think my house is cool and awesome.

Being Thankful

By Kedar Knight, second grade, D.S. Johnson Elementary

I am thankful

for a lot of things.

I am thankful

for food because it helps me grow big and strong.

I am thankful

for school because I learn new words and things I don't know.

But I am most thankful

for my family.

I am thankful

for my family because my family loves and cares about me

and my family is thankful for me.

We all love each other. My family cares about me a lot.

I am thankful

for my dad and mom.
