Angela Butler molds the young minds of students at Lakeside Baptist Preschool. Her passion for helping kids learn and grow is known throughout the community especially among hundreds of kids, whose lives she has touched. She lives in Rocky Mount with her husband, Daniel and her son, Caleb.
Something many people don’t know about me: I was extremely shy all of my young life and still struggle with that somewhat.
My passion is: Other than my family life, is creating something of value out of things that have lost value or just need a little TLC.
The most important thing I ever lost: Was a ring that my Aunt left to me when she died. It was made from my grandfather’s 50-year service pin from Southern Bell. It would have very little monetary value, but there’s not another one in the world like it and it was stolen from her estate.
My best friend says: I’m very giving.
My theme song would be: “Don’t Worry, Be Happy.”
My favorite piece of clothing in my closet is: Any of the MANY black pants, Capri’s, skirts, etc.
The best accessory I have is: My silver slide necklace and all the seasonal slides that go on it. Very “preschool chic.”
Words I live by: “In everything give thanks.”
My favorite book is: “Shepherding A Child’s Heart.”
I am most proud of: My son Caleb. His perseverance and outlook on life is an inspiration to me daily.
Top Three things my preschool kids have taught me: 1) “You get what you get and you don’t throw a fit.” Think about it, it fits any situation. This was taught to us by a 4-year-old many years ago. 2) You are never too young, old, smart or educated to learn. 3) We should all see other people through the eyes of children. They really don’t care who you are, where you’re from, what you wear, drive or live in. If you are nice, you’re OK.
The world would be a better place if: “We all had cookies and milk and took a nap each day.” Quote from Robert Fulghum’s book “All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten.”
The best advice I ever got was: “Don’t take life too seriously, have fun, don’t fear, and give yourself the permission to make mistakes.” Good advice from a great mom!
I’d like to learn how to: Fly an airplane, play the violin, and speak a second language.
What makes me feel like a kid again is: Being in the water. Could be any water; pool, ocean, or just the garden hose.
People should take the time to: Just be thankful. Even a bad day is a gift.
The best present I ever got was: The $6 watch my son bought for me when he was 8 years old. He bought it with his own money. Even though it doesn’t work anymore, I still wear it as a bracelet sometimes.
A person I really look up to and admire is: My father. He’s quietly led his life giving and doing for others with no need for acknowledgment or reciprocation. He has taught me so much without saying a word.
