I thought it was highly ironic the week I was driving the technology-laden all new Audi A6, the U.S. Secretary of Transportation was trying to convince Americans to just drive in their cars and get rid of all the distractions brought on by too much technology in your vehicle.

Umm...that’s not going to happen in the tech-centric Audi A6.

I’ve recently test-driven vehicles that come with a Smartphone to work everything, but the Audi A6 IS your complete internet-enabled device with the optional Audi Connect system. This system includes features like Google Earth satellite image overlays for the navigation system; weather and gas price information; and the ability for up to eight devices to use the A6 as a Wi-Fi hotspot.

Audi Connect includes a six-month free trial subscription, but after that you’ll have to pay for a data plan to support the features. It will cost you about $30 per month for unlimited 3G data.

Driving the A6 was awesome. It’s a big, heavy car, but the test model I had was equipped with the optional 3.0 liter supercharged V6 engine that put out 310 horsepower. Acceleration was surprisingly spry and the A6 seemed eager to take off when passing and merging onto highways.

Gas mileage was rated at 19/28 mpgs.

This is a very quiet car. Almost too quiet – I chalked up my 2-year old’s resistance to a nap in the car while driving to Nana’s for Christmas on the lack of white noise. It really is quiet!

There was no lack of seat space or cargo area - very important when going to Nana’s for Christmas. Everyone was comfy with plenty of headroom and legroom for my tall husband and all the presents fit comfortably.

The base price for a 3.0 A6 is $49,900. My test vehicle had the Prestige package and some other options, boosting the price to $61,530.
