Local officials recently broke ground on a new 100,000-square-foot Nutkao building at Whitaker Business and Industry Cente.

The company plans to create about 75 jobs and invest more than $17 million. This will be Nutkao’s first U.S. facility. The company is headquartered in Italy.

Frank Harrison, chairman of the Carolinas Gateway Partnership helped welcome the company to the area.

“With the location of Nutkao USA into Nash County, we are adding to our family of food manufacturing and distribution in the Twin Counties,” he said. “This cluster is something we are becoming known for and is the future of growth for us. At present, that cluster accounts for over 3,000 jobs and consists of Nutkao USA, Cheesecake Factory Bakers, Hillshire Farms (formerly Sara Lee) Poppies International, Atlantic Natural Foods, Meadowbrook Meats and McLane Carolina as well as East Coast Packaging and Butterfields Candies.”
