Being a local resource is important to the staff at RedPhish Music.
The Rocky Mount music store prides itself on being able to provide a local outlet for selling and repairing instruments and installing public address systems, manager Bill Hollingsworth said. That way people don’t have to leave the city to fill their musical needs.
The Rocky Mount location was the first of three RedPhish stores. The others are in Wilson and Smithfield. The stores inventory includes drums, guitars, keyboards and horn, wind and string instruments.
“Everybody enjoys music. It is really just to further people’s enjoyment of music and personal entertainment,” Hollingsworth said.
Q: What services or products do you provide?
A: We carry a full line of musical instruments, and we have instrument repair.
Q: Who are your key leaders?
A: I am the manager, and then Phillip Jordan is the owner.
Q: How many people do you employ?
A: At this particular store, three.
Q: When were you established?
A: We’ve been here about three years.
Q: What’s your business philosophy?
A: We try to sell for less, match Internet prices and keep the business here in Rocky Mount.
Q: What makes your business unique?
A: Our slogan is, 'Your local music store, your favorite store.’ That is our goal and our slogan. That is our goal to have that right in people’s minds so they don’t feel like they have to get on the Internet or go out of town to do business. They can do it right here.
Q: Why did you pick Rocky Mount as a place to do business?
A: As best as we could see, after Pearson Music Co. had gone out of business due to a corporate decision by their chain, there wasn’t a full music store here. So people didn’t have a choice but to go out of town.
