People in the area looking to shop for bedding in the coming months will have a new option to choose. Mattress Firm Inc., an American retailing company and mattress store chain, is set to open Aug. 29 at 794 Sutter’s Creek Blvd. next to Hobby Lobby.

Tammy Friedeck, communications coordinator at Mattress Firm, said the chain features more than 55 different models of mattresses from top manufacturers, including brand names like Sealy, Serta and Simmons. In addition, Mattress Firm carries specialty mattresses and bedding products incorporating the latest sleep technology, including pressure-relieving mattresses from Tempur-Pedic, Friedeck added.

Friedeck said Rocky Mount will joined Wilson, Greenville, Goldsboro and Kinston in having Mattress Firms’ locations in Eastern North Carolina. Friedeck said as the company continued to expand in eastern North Carolina, Rocky Mount was a logical next step to open a new location.

“With our location in
Wilson, we realized that many of our guests were traveling to be able to purchase their new sleep set,” Friedeck said. “Opening a location in Rocky Mount is designed to make the shopping experience convenient for our guests who live in the Rocky Mount area.”

Steve Stagner, president and CEO of Mattress Firm, said Rocky Mount is a good fit for the company.

“We are thrilled to be opening this location in Rocky Mount and look forward to offering our customers the same great shopping experience they have come to expect at our other locations in North Carolina,” Stagner said. “Our goal is to make the experience of shopping for a new mattress as simple and rewarding a process as possible. With our unparalleled selection and knowledgeable staff, we will do just that.”

Alan Matthews, director of Business Recruitment at the Rocky Mount Area Chamber of Commerce, was delighted about another retailer coming to the area.

“From an economic development perspective, I’m happy to see Mattress Firm make a long-term investment in the community,” Matthews said. “We’re seeing an interest in local and outside developers in the city, and we’re seeing an increase interest in other national retailers wanting to expand in our region.”

Friedeck said Mattress Firm is looking to hire two or three people at the new location and is accepting applications at
