For decades, Dorothy High has held administrative jobs that required planning and organization skills.

She has decided to use that experience in her business, High Time Organizers. The company helps individuals and small businesses get organized, which can help their productivity, she said.

“I’m pretty organized by nature,” she said. “I have done administrative work for over 30 years, and through that I have to be very organized to take care of the executives,” she said.

In those positions, she has often has planned conferences and meetings.

Being organized has many advantages for small business owners, including saving money by not having to purchase items they already have but aren’t aware of it with all the clutter, she said.

“It allows them to free up time in their life because they are not always constantly trying to find things they are missing,” she said.

High Time Organizers is her side business. Her day job is at Guardian Holdings, where she also handles administrative duties.

“It is mainly office organizing with business scheduling,” she said. “(At High time Organizers), I’m just branching out on my own to help individuals and small businesses.”

High is what is known as a professional organizer, who works with individuals at home or in their business to develop systems that manage their time by organizing areas that affect their lives, her website states.

“By using the techniques of sorting, purging and organizing a professional organizer can transform an area from chaos to manageable,” the website states.

Being organized adds many benefits to a person’s life, reducing stress, freeing up time, saving money and helping creativity, the website states.

“We at High Time Organizers will show you ways to set up organizing systems that will fit your personality and lifestyle whether you are a busy mom, a senior downsizing, or just need some basic help with finding a home for that stack of papers you have been looking at for months. Our goal is to show you how to find a simpler life through organization,” the website states.

Q: What products or services do you provide?

A: High Time Organizers offers residential and small business organizing services. Based on an initial assessment I will show and teach the client ways to organize the area they are struggling with as well as suggest organizing tools they can implement. As well as residential and business services I offer group sessions where I go and share tips to small groups on getting their homes, offices, storage buildings, garages, cars and many other areas organized. In addition, I offer individual services such as organizing pictures, paper or digital, tax papers, home inventory, medical records, home files and more.

High Time Organizers offers organizing services in the Rocky Mount, Nashville, Tarboro and Wilson area. I work part-time in the evenings and on weekends.

Q: Who are your key leaders?

A: Myself.

Q: How many people do you employ?

A: Myself.

Q: What is your business philosophy?

A: High Time Organizers’ business philosophy is like that of the saying coined by Anne Isabella Thackeray Ritchie – give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.

Same thing goes for organizing. If an individual has truly reached a point of wanting to be organized, then it won’t do him any good for me to just come in and organize the area for him but I have to teach him the organizing techniques and how to make them work.

Organizing is not just about going into someone’s home or business and doing it for them.

The process is a learning experience because these are techniques that each person will need to know how to work to keep their areas organized.

Q: What makes your business unique?

A: High Time Organizers is unique in that it offers services that not only brings organization into clients lives but offers peace of mind as part of the end result. If you think about it, people are stressed usually because other areas of their lives are chaotic.

Simple things like not being able to find that important piece of paper or missing a doctor’s appointment throw us into a tail spin. One way to reduce that chaos is to keep as many of those areas of our life organized, whether it is our home, business office, or calendar.

I had one customer at the end of their session say they were so glad to get their space organized because they had been wanting to get it done for awhile but kept putting it off. It was like a huge weight had been lifted off their shoulders, not to mention they were getting ready to put their house on the market and it made their home look less cluttered. Other customers are so overwhelmed with their spaces they don’t know where to start and just clearing a small area brings excitement to them.

When individuals are able to get areas or spaces in their life organized they are able to be more productive, they spend less money because they are not buying things they already have, and they have more time to enjoy life with peace of mind.

Q: How has your business grown?

A: It’s been a slow start because I don’t think people really understand professional organizing. We have done some advertising in The Grey Area as well as use social media tools such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. I’m also thankful to our customers for getting the word out by mouth.
