Draka Elevator has been sold by its corporate parent, Amsterdam-based Draka Holding, to Prysmian Cables and Systems of Milan, Italy.

Draka Elevator employs more than 160 people in its manufacturing facility on North Church Street and a 100,000-square-foot distribution facility in Battleboro.

Before the sale, Draka was the No. 8 cable manufacturer in the world and Prysmian, No. 3. Together, the company is the No. 1 producer of energy and communication cables worldwide with combined sales of $11 billion.

Draka Elevator supplies major original equipment manufacturers such as Otis, Thyssenkrupp, Kone and Schindler with electronic cables made in the Church Street facility. At the distribution center, the cables are combined with other products such as conduit, electrical components, safety equipment and wire rope that together are used in a shaft to support an elevator. The kits are shipped daily to elevator manufacturing facilities nationwide. Draka also sells directly to aftermarket customers that service and modify elevators.
