Power 10: Week 5

(+3) 1. Mason Hines, Sr., RB, Rocky Mount High: Hines carried the ball a career-high 27 times and scored the game-winning touchdown against SouthWest Edgcombe. Hines is a big, big reason the Gryphons are 4-0.

(--) 2. Tyquan Lewis, Sr., DE, Tarboro: One week away from Lewis’ big decision. It comes down to Ohio State, LSU, Vanderbilt, Ole Miss and North Carolina.

(-2) 3. Gerald Hinton, Sr., RB, SouthWest Edgecombe: Hinton was good in Week 4, but he was yet again the second-best back on the field. He found the end zone twice, but both times were worth only two points.

(+1) 4. Rashid Campbell, Sr., RB, Southern Nash: On only nine carries, Campbell turned in 129 yards and touchdown runs of 46 and 38 yards. That’s starting to become the norm for Campbell.

(+1) 5. Travonne Marshall, Sr., FB/DE, Tarboro: Back to defense for Marshall, who made the switch from defensive end to middle linebacker against North Edgecombe. He now has played at all three defensive levels in the past 365 days.

(+1) 6. Cameron Gardner, Sr., OL, Southern Nash: Gardner leads a seasoned offensive line, which led the way for the Firebirds to gain 389 yards on the ground. That’s just a walk in the park for the unit.

(-4) 7. Quay Mann, Sr., DB, Northern Nash: Mann missed out on the Knights’ last-second victory with an infection. He’ll play this week against Wilmington Laney.

(N/A) 8. Aaron Moore, Sr., QB, Tarboro: Back into the top 10 for Moore. Although that’s to be expected after three touchdowns (two on the ground and one in the air), to go along with 96 yards on just four carries.

(-1) 9. Adam Bayless, Sr., FB, Rocky Mount Academy: Bayless had to carry the Eagles even more so last week after two running backs were injured in the first half.

(N/A) 10. Jarius Richardson, Sr., LB, Nash Central: While his brother isn’t completely healthy, Jarius shines. He has been solid on the defensive side of the ball but ran for 64 yards and a touchdown in Nash Central’s Week 4 loss.

Others in consideration:

JaQuez Avent, Jr., RB, Northern Nash; Dante Battle, Sr., DE, Rocky Mount High; Chi-Ali Bunn, Sr., WR, Southern Nash; Broderick Caudle, So., RB, Rocky Mount High; Marquez Farmer, Sr., QB, Northern Nash; Deon Lavender, Jr., QB, Southern Nash; Khalil Macklin, Jr., QB, Nash Central; Darius Phillips, Sr., RB, North Edgecombe; Antawan Pittman, Fr., RB, North Edgecombe; Kendrick Richardson, Jr., WR, Northern Nash; Jarrod Richardson, Sr., LB, Nash Central; Quentin Roberson, Sr., RB, Tarboro; Collin Staton, Sr., LB, Nash Central; Mark Tann, Fr., RB, Rocky Mount Prep.
