A dear friend of mine has been sending me daily verses of encouragement. If you ever doubt that the Word is alive, living and breathing and relevant in 2014, then you need to spend more time with your nose between those inspirational pages.
These past few months, I have come across many verses where I felt as if God was speaking directly to me. In fact, He was. He is that kind of God. Last week, we celebrated Easter and the reminder that He is Risen is in the forefront of my thoughts.
The most recent verse my friend shared is one of her personal favorites, which may be my new favorite verse. Ephesians 3:20 says, “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us.” Those words touched my heart. I kept playing back the words “immeasurably more” in my head.
Rewind and play again. Immeasurably more.
The message never gets old or stale or tired. Immeasurably more. As Americans, we know all about immeasurably more. We supersize, add extra this or that, feast at all you can eat or all you have time to eat and shop all night at 24x7 stores. But do we think about our God being immeasurably more? And not just immeasurably more, which would be “a plenty” (as my grandmother said). But immeasurably more than “all we ask or imagine according to his power that is at work within us.”
Wow, that’s some power that He has placed inside of our clay pots, huh? I don’t know about you, but that gave me hope! I started to feel energized by that promise. There is power in the Word.
Most days I think we believe God to be just enough. My prayer for you (and me) is that we would believe God to be immeasurable more than anything we can ever ask for or dream of. And that God grants us patience as we rest in the promise that He has the whole world in his hands (I love that song!) – not just the itty-bitty baby, but also those who are not so itty-bitty any more.
