The fiction of bloggers

There’s a blog rumor that Gov. Sarah Palin, John McCain’s choice of a running mate if you’ve been off the planet somewhere, really didn’t have her baby; it was a staged pregnancy to cover up the supposed fact that her 17-year-old daughter had the baby. I put that rumor right up there with the one that saw Elvis at Ihop in Rocky Mount this morning.

Not far below the incredulity of that blog are those rants by proponents of the far right and left. Sean Hannity and Keith Olbermann are two of the cable’s red meat guys. But whom do you really believe, Huffington Post, Drudge, the list goes on and reflects every conceivable opinion out there.

My problem is that a reader can no longer trust anything read or said. These folks are in the entertainment business, not the news business. I’m all for discussing the pros and cons of McCain’s choice (really stupid or really brilliant based on your party affiliation), but rumors and fabrications serve no useful purpose. It’s an electronic version of the “yellow journalism” from the 1930s.

While newspapers make mistakes, we make a big effort to check our facts and we certainly don’t mislead intentionally. By all means read a blog when you’ve got time to kill and need a laugh. But if you’re serious about news, read a newspaper.

First of all glad you have found the time to update your blog.

Now to your most recent posting.

Theres a blog rumor that Gov. Sarah Palin, John McCains choice of a running mate if you’ve been off the planet somewhere, really didn’t have her baby; it was a staged pregnancy to cover up the supposed fact that her 17-year-old daughter had the baby. I put that rumor right up there with the one that saw Elvis at Ihop in Rocky Mount this morning.

(Well sir, when I read the post that was sent to me from a Yahoo group that originated from Daily Kos I took in consideration who sent it to me and then I went to the Daily Kos to make sure it came from Daily Kos. After reading the controversy that Palin had hidden her pregnancy, my comment was posted here.

My problem is that a reader can no longer trust anything read or said. These folks are in the entertainment business, not the news business.

(I don’t care where I get information from, be it a resource that may include family and friends I research it and then make a decision to post it on my blog. I don’t blog for entertainment but for the purpose of educating folks on what is going on around them. My Disclaimerspeaks for me.) TPA

I’m all for discussing the pros and cons of McCain’s choice (really stupid or really brilliant based on your party affiliation), but rumors and fabrications serve no useful purpose. Its an electronic version of the “yellow journalism” from the 1930s.

(I like the way you only speak of McCain’s choice however Obama has been lied on for how long now? So you say trust in the newspaper? Well don’t show any bias. But I guess I could assume you are not a Democrat. Oh well. “Yellow journalism”? 1930’s and still alive in 2008.) TPA

“While newspapers make mistakes, we make a big effort to check our facts and we certainly don’t mislead intentionally. By all means read a blog when you’ve got time to kill and need a laugh. But if you’re serious about news, read a newspaper.”

(Oh hell no don’t go there. I know as a blogger I’ll be damned if I post information to mislead intentionally. I don’t post to mislead but again to put the information out there and those who read need to keep my Disclaimerin mind at all times.

As it relates to my blogging and the reading the newspaper because it is the gospel, “truth,” that is bull manure because I have challenged this newspaper and several others over the years because I was at the meetings when this newspaper and others have printed something that I didn’t agree with.

Also I attend meetings and I report on what happens at the meeting before the newspapers come out online or in print. So in other words, they read about it before it is in your newspaper and others. When your newspaper come out, I go back and add the link from your newspaper and others who were present so my readers can see what ya’ll had to say.

I refuse to allow you to put all bloggers in the same category just like I refuse to put all newspapers in the same category.

Again glad you found time to update your blog because it sure didn’t look good outdated.

Anyone who’s been following the Internet’s blogging community for more than a couple of years knows exactly where any of the major blogs fits in the partisan universe.

While DailyKos and HuffPo are sometimes enjoyable reads for the more liberally-minded (as National Review’s “Corner” and Redstate are for those of a conservative bent), they’re all unapologetically partisan.

For my money, the most newsmaking blog out there is Josh Marshall’s .

Drudge is a tabloid joke, and jumped the shark years ago. To paraphrase Senator Biden, it’s just “a political rumor, a tabloid scandal and a two-headed goat”.

Here we go again…Mr. Dancy, you are exactly who this blog talks about. You most certainly do mislead people and you are the most biased and racist person who blogs on this website.

You continually put people down for doing the same thing you do…have an opinion. You only gather facts that support your cause regardless if there are more fact to discredit your position.

I applaud Rip’s blog. Now if he could only keep you from posting on here that would be even better. Maybe he should shut this blog down like they did the message board. You ruined that for everybody as well.

Dancy, The Telegram is all about the liberal Democrats like you and your brother, Knight. I have sent letters to the paper showing my support for McCain/Palin and Mrs. Dole but instead of reading it in the paper, I read the bull manure of Obama and Hagan. This paper is another example of liberal media biasness. If it wasn’t I would have already read my letter by now.

Mislead? Funny how you didn’t give an example but typical of folks like you, always trying to paint a picture of someone and don’t have any facts. Name one thing I have misled someone about.

Biased and racist? Really? To what race because I talk about black, brown and white folks. LOL, TPA

You continually put people down for doing the same thing you do. You only gather facts that support your cause regardless if there are more fact to discredit your position.

How ignorant? Why don’t you post the facts that you say I do not. LOL, TPA

I applaud Rip’s blog. Now if he could only keep you from posting on here that would be even better.

I know you do because you don’t want the truth to be made known. You see I am an active black man and do not have to rely on this paper or any paper for what goes on in the local community and abroad. However I post the links to the newspaper so folks can see their spin. TPA

Maybe he should shut this blog down like they did the message board. You ruined that for everybody as well.

Really, obviously I am SPEAKING TRUTH TO POWER since you and others continue to blame me for the message board being shut down.

And by the way you act as if you are the only one to not have letters posted. Hell I have had many that were not posted.

So if I was the enemy here then ain’t it funny how I am still posting all over this newspaper and other newspapers across the nation. But it is those like you who hide behind a code name or give part of a name who try to run off folks like myself who are not afraid to let people know who I am. But that is the difference in folks who are scared and folks who are not. JU&DLOL) TPA

I am Greg Roth and I do not approve of one more political candidate bashing another, lines of text being pulled out of context, voting records being twisted and just down right cruel advertisng.

What happened to “let us stick to the issues”? When I go to the voting both I want to check the box that says “none of the above”. I am Greg Roth and I approve this message.
