A new look for rockymounttelegram.com
You may notice a few differences today as you’re checking out the Telegram Web site.
For much of the past week, we’ve been learning to use a new content program that makes posting stories, photos, videos and other features much easier. More important to you, the content we’re putting on the Web site is much better organized and easier to navigate.
We’re also offering Telegram Web site visitors the option of posting comments on every story on the site. We’re wading into this cautiously … much as we did with our blogs a few months ago. In other words, please keep your comments relevant, family-friendly, and don’t use the opportunity to launch a personal attack.
I think the comment tool can be a great way for us to learn from your feedback … just as this blog has been a wonderful resource for us as we investigate issues such as ElectriCities and police work. It also gives us a chance to talk back with you, making our Web site truly interactive.
We hope you like the new features. We have more to come soon. If you have additional suggestions, I’m eager to hear from you.
And please … keep the comments positive.

Re the story on Sharon Harris Plant. Does this mean that our illustrious ElectriCities will increase our rates? Less efficient plants and other companies means high costs. This will cost us since we own some of this blasted plant. How much? Will it be withheld for 9 months like the refinance blunder or will they come clean now and prepare us. I dont see how our businesses can take much more. www.bluenc.com is comparing rates and we look bad.
Why does ElectriCities not offer a blanket explanation of the problems and issues. They do not deny delays in telling us or anything yet they take no responsibility. Typical bureaucrats.

Jeff I love the new format. I was wondering when was the paper going to make the necessary change keeping in line with other papers. After I seen Greenville change their format I said bingo I hope Rocky Mount would follow.

I agree. it looks great. Jeff, why did ElectriCities tell you $647,000 for lawyers and then write Mr. Rick Dew in Wilson a letter telling him $1.1 million? How can we be sure we get any correct information? Mr. Dancy posted this on his site. If we do not stay on them, I fear we will be bankrupted.

Wilson Times August 27 Cities must hold ElectriCities accountable
The recent City Council meetings should signal to all that something is very wrong in Wilson when it comes to our electric rates. It is time for City Council to hold ElectriCities accountable for spending and decisions. It is time for all 32 cities to hold them accountable. I hope Wilson will be the leader. ElectriCities needs to make cuts now.
We are paying 2 percent more on electric rates for a big financial mistake that people are paid too much to make. And someone made money off the mistake. But it was not us, the taxpayers.
In October 2003, Mr. Tilton, the CEO, made $328,328 and now he makes $458,000 and the board says he is underpaid. What did he do over five years to yield a $130,000 increase? Clay Norris makes $244,000 now and in 2003 he made $165,000, what did he do to earn an $80,000 increase? Estherine Davis earned $75,000 in 2003 and now makes $135,000, what did she do to earn a $60,000 increase? Is it just me or are these salaries and salary increases excessive?
This money could have been saved for a rainy day like the day we got when we were told of the rate increase. In looking at other executives in similar industries, these are excessive salaries. These are pertinent questions in light of soaring rates, and there is no sign that the board of directors is evaluating and making any cuts to the budget. Harris Plant was off line this month for 10 days. We get power from it. How much will that cost us? Another 2 percent increase this fall just before winter? But instead we hear Mr. Tilton talking about Washington. Our problem is in Raleigh at ElectriCities.
Rocky Mount reported legal bills at $647,000, but I got a letter telling me they were $1.1 million. How will we ever get the correct information in this coverup and fix this place. As a city, we need to demand a full accounting now.
