Rocky Mount High observations
— Rocky Mount High continues to get contributions from unexpected sources. Twice on kickoffs Friday sophomore wide receiver Marcus Jones made a tackle. And his natural position is wide receiver.
— Now, the matchup everyone has been waiting for finally is here. Rocky Mount at Western Alamance. Gryphons at Warriors. Round three, the second in the eastern regional finals. Needless to say, this is a big, big week.
— The Warriors are going to have trouble figuring out who to stop. Six Gryphons carried the ball, with each gaining at least 32 yards. Quarterback Chris Berry carried the ball three times, including a 41-yard run that featured a bone-crushing hit on the one-yard line. Oh, and Berry was the one delivering the hit.

The Gryphons should need no further motivation for Friday night’s big matchup with Western Alamance since the Warriors have knocked RM out of the state play-offs the last two years. Western Alamance was the better of the two teams that night when they played two year’s ago but last year’s last minute defeat was disheartening. Both of last year’s teams seemed to be more evenly matched. Western Alamance will have a large crowd and a loud band that continuously plays throughout the game. The Gryphons deserve a huge following to travel with the team to support them in what will be a hostile environment. I have not seen the band travel with the team the last few state play-off road games but it would make it interesting to have our band be there and continuously play and show the Western Alamance band that we know how to “jam” too. RM is #2 two in the state 3A, won a school record 14 consecutive games, set an all-time single season rushing record and is two games away from winning a state championship. This teams deserves a huge amount of support and make the trip to Western. The RM following needs to be very vocal! Congratulations to Coach Holt, his staff and the team for an outstanding 2007 performance! Hit-em hard and go D-Block! Let’s get revenge!

Great link if you want to study up on RM’s opponent, Western Alamance. You can copy and paste this link into your internet browser. There is recent video of Western’s games and interview with players and coaches for Western as they prepare for RM. On the site you can also see detailed 2007 stats, 2007 roster and 2007 game results. By watching the video of the games the key offensive palyers are the QB #4, the running back #35 and the wide receiver #10. #4 and #35 are small but quick and elusive. The QB likes to do alot of QB draws and delayed hand-offs to #35. Should be an exciting game. Well worth it to make the trip to Elon and support the Gryps.
