Rocky Mount High observations

  • As Rocky Mount High Gryphon Dominique McKnight said, some of the Gryphons were using the hit stick. It’s a reference to the EA Sports video games, but it worked for this one. Dedrick Silver picked up a Viking and put him back down, Brian Goodwin missiled the Union Pines quarterback and fullback Nick Hahula had a pair of slobber-knockers.
  • The Chris Berry and Hiawatha Bunn debate continues. Berry has been great lately, and obviously knows this offense. In a sense, coach B.W. Holt is open to criticism no matter what option (Berry, Bunn or both) he chooses. He’s only right if his eventual pick wins a state championship.
  • The crowd was lackluster. Hopefully, they come around for the second round.

QB Berry has looked more comfortable the last two weeks throwing the ball. The offense against Northern Nash and Union Pines were clicking the best it has in quite sometime. If RM wanted to it could have racked up even more points in both games. QB Bunn looked to still be a little gimpy trying to run the ball to the outside. Outside of a few long runs the defense continues to look sharp. This is one of the hardest hitting high school defenses I have seen in quite sometime. Congratulations to Coach Holt and his team as they continue their march to hopefully a state championship. After the last few years coming up short it would be nice to get one. What an atmosphere it would be if Western Alamance and RM were to meet again in the play-offs for the third straight year!
