Nash Central observations
Nash Central rolled to a 41-7 win Friday night over Jacksonville in the first round of the NCHSAA 3-AA state playoffs. An inside look from the sideline …
Nash Central played an almost perfect game. The Bulldogs rolled up 526 yards of offensive, including 481 rushing yards. Quarterback Cameron Holloway and fullback Eric Moore both rushed for more than 100 yards. Running back Ricardo Douglas rushed for a season-high 71 yards. And the defense combined for four sacks, two turnovers forced and plenty of highlights. Oh, and they carried a shutout late into the fourth quarter.
Normally, coach Kenneth Grantham talks with his team for at least a few minutes after a game, win or lose. On Friday, he shared only a few words of praise and encouragement. “Anything else?” he asked. Assistants and players shook their heads. “All right, then,” he said, and the Bulldogs dropped their heads and knocked out their postgame prayer with all the efficiency they displayed on the field.
The Bulldogs are playing about as well now as they have at any point this season. They are clicking offensively, defensively and on special teams. They are confident. They believe they can beat any team. All of which means they will likely put up more of a fight against Wilson Hunt a week from tonight than they did the last time the teams played. On Sept. 7, at Wilson Hunt, Nash Central limped to a 21-7 loss. The Bulldogs were a different team then. Now, there is discussion of revenge and payback.
