Like many of you, I am doing some holiday travel this weekend to visit family and like many of you, I don't worry about my own driving, but I do worry about the driving of others.

Thankfully we are being blessed right now with gorgeous weather (for December anyways), so the short jaunt to Greensboro should be fine as far as snow and ice, but the fear lies with drivers who have been celebrating not just with holiday spirit and get behind the wheel of their sleigh intoxicated (yes, I am having fun with the holiday innuendos).

So I implore all those celebrating to excess to enlist the help of a Grinch in their lives to drive them home. I'm sure everyone has someone in their lives who will be sober and understanding, even if you call at 3 or 4 a.m. I for one would rather get that early-morning phone call for a ride than get a phone call from the police telling me a friend or family member died in a wreck.

Below are some signs even Santa would know indicate a driver might be drunk:

• Making wide turns
• Weaving, swerving, drifting, or straddling the center line
• Almost striking an object or vehicle
• Driving on the wrong side of the road
• Driving at a very slow speed
• Stopping without cause
• Braking erratically
• Responding slowly to traffic signals
• Turning abruptly or illegally
• Driving after dark with headlights off

Keeping these things in mind can help you avoid a dangerous situation. If you spot what you think is an impaired driver, keep a safe distance and call 911 or *HP. Do not attempt to stop the vehicle yourself.
