Okay, so I don't know about you, but these warm temperatures have given me grill fever. However, the National Fire Protection Agency urges all you grill fanatics to give your grill a once-over before you lite it up for the first time this season.
THIS video gives some great tips on what to look for to make sure your next barbeque doesn't go up in smoke. They also produced THIS video with tips on how to safely change your propane tanks.
If you are like me, you never stopped grilling for the winter, but checking your grill's innerworkings once a year is good idea to make sure critters haven't caused a leak in your hoses or cracked your tank.
HERE are some great safety tips to keep in mind all year long:
- Propane and charcoal BBQ grills should only be used outdoors.
- The grill should be placed well away from the home, deck railings and out from under eaves and overhanging branches.
- Keep children and pets away from the grill area.
- Keep your grill clean by removing grease or fat buildup from the grills and in trays below the grill.
- Never leave your grill unattended.
Oh and I can't just give safety tips without giving a shout out to a guy who has made a living grilling, Steven Raichlen, and brings new meaning to the phrase, King of the Grill. Check out his Barbecue Bible website HERE for recipes, techniques and tips, including the 10 Commandments of Great Grilling.
