Fashion Odds and Ends

A few things I've been meaning to tell you about:

1.. Carolina Charm is doing its part to prevent Crimes of Fashion. This is a serious problem in the Twin Counties and we're hoping to do our part to help prevent the thoughtless use dorky holiday theme sweaters, wind suits and the unlawful use of leggings.

Carolina Charm staff is accepting nominations for one lucky woman to win some new outfits and some serious wardrobe consulting. Our contest, Your Wore What?!?, is taking on the fashion challenged and hoping to transform a fashion victim into a fashionista.

From now through March 31 you can nominate the fashion-offender in your life – your mom, sister, daughter, friend – by sending us photos, videos, stories, etc., and we’ll give a lucky winner three new outfits.

There are a few rules: The nominee must live in the Twin County area; be 21years-old or older; and be willing to part with three outfits - one for work, one for weekend and one for evening – in exchange for three new outfits better suited for their body.

On April 1, we will randomly  draw one nominee to receive the makeover.

Poor style affects many, and often people don’t realize it until it’s too late. Don’t let someone you love suffer any longer!

Send your nominations, questions, etc. to Maria Wells:mwells@rmtelegram.com or 252-407-9929.

2. A company that contacted me about their products, actually turned out to be really cool. Project Iris Clothing is a company that offers really nice t-shirts with beautiful graphics AND it donates a portion of all proceeds to the World Food Program USA, one of the world’s largest humanitarian organizations. The shirts are gorgeous and I wish I could buy one for all my friends. I love the new spring designs. Check them out here. All Charm readers get a special discount through March 31 - just put in Charm10 in the spot for discount code when ordering.

3. With summer weather closing in, when I think of hot weather clothes, I invariably tend to think, sundresses, sandals and cool cotton jersey. Emily Newnam of Rocky Mount, and her partner Amelia Rogers of Henderson, have a gorgeous line of summer dresses that Totally You (in the Shoppes at Stoney Creek) is carrying. The girls' line, Southern fRock, is the epitome of southern summer fashion: easy, breezy and perfect for the beach! I love talking fashion with Emily (we hope to have more of her in our Charm fashion stories - see what she had to say about wardrobe essentials in a story in the most recent issue of Charm) and I'm fascinated by Amelia since I remember her when she was a young teenager. It's hard to believe  his beautiful accomplished young woman is the same kid I saw running around the track at a Relay for Life event several years ago. Time flies. Now I feel old. ANYWAY - I like these two girls because they took something they loved (fashion), went to school, worked hard and made their dream a reality.

Some of Southern fRock's dresses shown at a recent fashion show in Atlanta.
