Luxembourg Minister for Media and Telecommunications presents Richard G. 'Rick' Minor with a national medal for his significant contributions to the Luxembourg economy. |
This is one of the highest honors which Luxembourg awards to individuals who have made significant contributions to the Luxembourg economy.
Minor is employed as general manager of AOL Europe Services SARL in Luxembourg.
During the seven years he has worked in Luxembourg, he helped to create and expand the e-commerce economy in Luxembourg as head of AOL and through his personal efforts.
AOL was the first global e-commerce company to set up a business in Luxembourg.
Today, Luxembourg can claim similar investments from other e-commerce companies such as Amazon, Apple itunes, Ebay, Skype, Paypal and BskyB.
According to the Luxembourg government's statement, the AOL business became the foundation for the e-commerce investment base as it exists in Luxembourg today, generating a number of significant synergies for the creation of new jobs, introducing new skill sets into the labor market, increased tax revenues and expanding the Luxembourg economy into the e-commerce sector.
Through the cooperation with the government and Luxembourg business partners, Minor has worked diligently to increase the global profile of Luxembourg as an attractive business location for e-commerce enterprises.
He also has advised the Luxembourg government on key issues of common interest to business in the e-commerce sector.
Minor is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. Minor of Rocky Mount. He graduated from Rocky Mount Academy.
Minor has an undergraduate degree in economics from Duke University, a law degree from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and a master's in law degree from Georgetown University.
