RALEIGH — N.C. Department of Transportation crews are ready to begin working on a preservation project for the U.S. 52 bridge over Interstate 40 in Winston-Salem.
Weather permitting, the work is scheduled to begin Friday night. That means the right lane of U.S. 52 South will be closed, and crews will close the ramp from U.S. 52 South to I-40 East.
Crews will use high-powered jets of water to remove deteriorated concrete from the bridge deck. Once that process is complete, crews will place a layer of latex-modified concrete on the bridge's driving surface. The work will improve the ride quality as well as help the bridge last longer by sealing and protecting the deck and substructure from water damage.
The work is expected to be complete by Nov. 4.
