RALEIGH — The American Cancer Society is looking for Wake County residents who don't have a history of the disease to take part in a research project.
Researchers need about 1,000 Wake County residents ages 30 to 65 to participate in the nationwide study.
The residents can sign up by telephone or online. In March, they'll visit one of 10 locations to give blood samples and have their waist measurements taken.
They'll receive health questionnaires every two to three years after that.
The Cancer Prevention Study-3 will involve 300,000 participants nationwide. Its purpose is to get information about behaviors, environmental factors and other lifestyle issues.
Previous studies helped researchers understand risks associated with the disease, such as smoking and obesity.
