BOLIVIA— A Brunswick County woman has been found guilty of voluntary manslaughter in the 2012 death of her boyfriend.

A Superior Court judge sentenced 49-year-old Julie English Tuesday to 51 to 74 months in prison, but with credit for nearly two years in jail, English could be released as early as 2016.

English had faced a second-degree murder charge.

According to English's testimony, Michael Anthony Pate confronted English and her boss' son on May 27, 2012, after they had gone to collect money for crack cocaine.

English testified that Pate punched her in the face after he asked the man to leave. She said she was about to drive to the hospital when she instead drove toward the porch of the home she shared with Pate and ran over him.
