GREENVILLE — A soldier stationed at Fort Carson, Colo., is being held in North Carolina in the death of a woman in Colorado last week.

Greenville police say they were told by authorities in Colorado Springs that 24-year-old Sgt. Montrell Lamar Anderson Mayo might be in the area. He surrendered at the Pitt County magistrate's office Sunday afternoon.

A Fort Carson spokeswoman said Mayo is a supply specialist for the 759th Military Police Batalion.

Mayo was wanted in the death of a woman found at a hotel in Colorado Springs Sunday morning. Investigators believe she died Thursday or Friday.

No information has been released about the woman. An autopsy was planned to determine how she died.

It's not known if Mayo has an attorney.
