SALISBURY — Authorities in Rowan County say a man who was free on $1 million bond has been arrested again on drug charges.

The Charlotte Observer reports (http://bit.ly/RPg4oI) that the suspect's girlfriend also faces charges. Sheriff's deputies say she is eight months pregnant.

Deputies said 19-year-old Brandon Lee Rumple of Kannapolis was arrested Wednesday at his father's house after fleeing from authorities. Also charged in the case was 25-year-old Tasha Nichole Simpson, who deputies identified as Rumple's girlfriend.

Rumple was charged with possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver MDMA; resisting delaying and obstructing a public officer; altering and destroying evidence; and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was jailed under $2.5 million bond.

Simpson is jailed under $250,000 bond on a number of charges.

Investigators said they were watching Rumple after getting information that he had been seen in an area of Charlotte known as a distribution point for heroin. According to deputies, Rumple and Simpson determined they were being watched. They said Simpson broke several traffic laws and they saw Rumple toss a powdery substance and plastic bag out of the car. They reached a residence in Kannapolis, where authorities say Rumple got out of the car and tossed a bag to his father.

Deputies said they were able to recover some of the powder from Brandon Rumple's face and clothing, and they said they found a torn plastic bag on a street. The bag contained 2 grams of a powder that tested positive for MDMA, a drug also known as ecstasy.
