MANTEO — The search for a pilot missing after a plane crash near the Outer Banks has been suspended

Authorities said the twin-engine plane crashed around noon Sunday in the Croatan Sound while attempting to land at the Dare County Regional Airport near Manteo.

Rescuers were able to pull a female passenger from the water and took her to a hospital. Her condition was not known.

Authorities said the wreckage of the plane has been found. The Coast Guard helped in the search for the pilot until sundown Sunday. The search will resume Monday morning.
