Raleigh police to go Christmas shopping with kids

RALEIGH — Members of the Raleigh Police Department will be making the Christmas season a little brighter for a group of children.

The department's annual "Shop-with-a-Cop" event is scheduled for Saturday at a local Wal-Mart. The event begins with breakfast at the store, with shopping expected to begin at 8:30 a.m.

This year's event is sponsored by Wal-Mart and CPI Security Systems. Using funds contributed by the two businesses, 40 children will be able to shop. Each child gets a $100 gift card to use for purchases, and police officers will be with them as they make their decisions.

Members of the department's Youth Services Section is coordinating the shopping trip, The section worked with several resources to identify participants.
