WILMINGTON — The North Carolina Highway Patrol says a passenger grabbed a car's steering wheel causing an accident that claimed the life of a woman in Pender County.
The crash claimed the life of 27-year Jennie Marie Moore of Burgaw who was driving the vehicle
Authorities say 26-year-old Lance Christopher Powers has been charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle. Troopers say he grabbed the steering wheel of the car and it smashed into an oncoming vehicle on North Carolina 53.
Authorities said they interviewed witnesses before bringing the charge.
Three people in the other car were injured. Powers remains hospitalized. It was not clear if he has an attorney.
